As an unseeded participant, the Japanese tennis player brushed aside her 15th-seeded French opponent, Caroline Garcia, in the opening round. Later, Osaka clinched another brilliant straight-set win against Petra Martić before being awarded a walkover in the round of 16.
Karolína Plíšková, on the other hand, is coming to the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha after her triumphant run at the Winners Open. In her opening round matches, the former world No. 1 defeated the likes of Anna Kalinskaya and Anastasia Potapova to reach the round of 16. Plíšková then overcame her compatriot Linda Nosková after pulling off a phenomenal comeback in a three-set game, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Osaka vs. Plíšková: Head-to-Head
The second-round match between Osaka and Plíšková at the Doha Open will mark their seventh meeting on the WTA circuit. Their two most recent meetings have been at the Brisbane International (2020 and 2024), and on both occasions, it was the 31-year-old player who came out on top.
