Coco Gauff’ has asked Brad Gilbert to “kind of take a step back” for a while
The American youngster recently rehired her old coach, Jean-Christophe Faurel, who will work along with Gilbert. However, during the Stuttgart Open, Gilbert’s absence from the box raised many questions. The 62-year-old coach, as he helped with the training for ‘Challengers’ for three months, was in Los Angeles for the premiere of the movie. However, Gauff cleared the air after her round of 16 victory.
“No, he did not choose Zendaya over me (smiling). I think I told him to kind of take a step back, especially starting with J.C. I wanted him to be able to work on it on his own and play a tournament by himself.” The US Open champion wanted to get back into the rhythm of working with Faurel.

However, the decision may not be appropriate for her run in Stuttgart. She needs to draw up a plan to help her in Madrid as the current strategy blew up. Anyway, in the same conference, she further said, “Yeah, he’s supposed to come to Madrid. He’s not here. I think when I started with him, he was never going to be coming to every tournament. Just mainly the big ones, especially in the European part of the swing, I think, most of the time.”
So, Will Gilbert join the team and help Faurel work out a sound strategy for the Masters in Spain?
