3 Years After His Death, Sloane Stephens Turns to Late Grandfather’s Memory With an Emotional Message Cherishing His Life

It was the 2021 Australian Open. The former Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens, had her preparations going on in full swing. However, just before the start of the tournament, Stephens received heartbreaking news. She lost both her grandparents amid the Covid-19 pandemic. It took a toll on her preparations and eventually, affected her performance at the tournament.

Stephens lost in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open, going down against Yulia Putintseva. It was a disappointing end to her campaign after putting in a lot of hard work. Three years after the passing away of her grandparents, Stephens paid tribute to them.

The American star is in Australia to participate in the Grand Slam Down Under. While she advanced to the third round of the tournament, Sloane Stephens had saddening memories from the tournament from three years ago as her grandparents passed away during this event. On their third death anniversary, Stephens paid a heartfelt tribute to them.

Hours ago, she took to her Instagram handle to share memories of that dark day. Posting a picture via a story on her official Instagram handle, she wrote, “3 years ago.” Additionally, she shared a quote about love and death that read, “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Stephens shared a close bond with her grandparents. However, she couldn’t be with them during their last stage of life. Following the death of her grandparents, she vowed to make them proud. She also engaged herself in a noble gesture to honor her late grandparents.

A couple of years ago, the American star was engaged in a philanthropic activity. It was meant to support promising students and was done by Stephens to honor her grandparents.

Opening up about this activity, she said, “I am so excited to award 20 incredible applicants The Doc & Glo Scholarship! I created this opportunity to honor my beloved grandparents, affectionately known as Doc and Glo.”

This wonderful campaign has created a wave of change and supported many needy students. While Stephens continues to shine on the court, she is also making this world a better place to live with these amazing initiatives.
