Sorana Cîrstea recently enjoyed another breakthrough Grand Slam campaign at the US Open. She brushed aside some top-ranked players like Belinda Bencic and Elena Rybakina to reach the quarterfinal round.  However, in the following tournaments including the China Open, the Romanian tennis star had a lackluster run, having faced initial round knockout defeats. Now, the 33-year-old will look to make amends at her home tournament, the Transylvania Open which is almost underway.

While speaking about her return to her home soil, the former world No. 21 recently shared a soul-stirring message. In doing so, the US Open quarterfinalist also brought to light ‘above the average’ reality that triggered her to make an ‘utterly exemplary’ admission about the WTA 250 event.

Sorana Cîrstea expresses her excitement for the Transylvania Open

The 33-year-old recently attended the Winners Open draw ceremony where she also gave a heartfelt speech about her home tournament. Sorana Cîrstea said that she is quite excited about her return to Cluj-Napoca, Romania, and hopes to mark a deep run this season. Meanwhile, the current world No. 26 asserted that the Transylvania Open exceeds a lot of the average WTA 250 events.

Cîrstea said, “Firstly I am grateful for the opportunity to play on home ground. It means a lot to me. This a tournament that exceeds a lot the average WTA250.”

“Everything is utterly exemplary and I am proud when the players from the tour and praise this tournament… I tell them they should tell this to you [the organizers].”

The Romanian tennis star also opened up about how she had to pull out of the tournaments in her home country in the previous season due to an injury. But this time around, Cîrstea is all geared up for some ‘good’ matchups in Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Cîrstea looks to mark a deep run at the Transylvania Open

The WTA star has entered the tournament as the top seed and will lock horns with the unseeded German, Eva Lys in her first-round match. Prior to the start of the Winners Open, Cîrstea opened up about how she is all geared up for this season’s event. She said, “I am happy to be here. Last time I played here was 5 years ago, for the Fed Cup. Unfortunately last year I was injured, but this year I planned it in advance in order to be at the top from here.”

Cîrstea asserted that there will be some exciting matchups in the the Transylvania Open that will delight the audience. She added, “I really hope to go really deep here. It has a powerful draw, there will be good matches here and I know the public will enjoy here. Thank you and I am really happy to be here, in Cluj, again.”
