The younger Williams sister is second on the list of most Grand Slam titles in women’s singles, one behind Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. Moreover, she has dominated the doubles category too with Venus Williams.

Further, she added, “For that guy (chair umpire) to even insinuate that you had coaching, my heart was pounding, and I was having chest pains over this. You seem to wear your heart on your sleeve. How could he say such a thing? Well, anyway, there you went on so graciously like you always do and accepted the ruling. You are such a rarity, such an example for the whole world to see, of kindness, graciousness, humility. I love you, Serena.”

The US Open 2018 controversy

The 2018 US Open women’s singles final was marred by controversy. The incident erupted in the second set when chair umpire Carlos Ramos gave a warning to Serena for coaching code violation.

That wasn’t the end of it as a second violation, costing her a point, came after the fifth game of the second set when she slammed a broken racket to the ground in frustration. Further, a third violation resulted in a game penalty for Serena due to ‘verbal abuse’ as cited by the umpire. Naomi Osaka went on to win her first Grand Slam title back then.

Currently, Serena has been sidelined due to an injury. Further, she withdrew from the Australian Open 2022 on the advice of her medical team. We hope to see the tennis legend back in action soon.
