‘You Can’t Be Shocked’- Danielle Collins Warned of ‘Worse’ Things to Come at French Open From Legendary Compatriot Andy Roddick

Danielle Collins‘ massive run for the title in Madrid came to a disappointing end lately. Besides facing a 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 defeat against Aryna Sabalenka, the American also had to go through a disturbing situation with the crowd. Collins showed her argumentative side by lashing out at a spectator during the Madrid Open. While Andy Roddick came forward to analyze the situation, he urged her to be prepared for an even scarier reality waiting at the French Open.
Talking about Danielle Collins’ last match at the Madrid Open, former tennis star Andy Roddick ended up issuing a cautionary note for the American WTA star. Collins, who built a massive 15-match win streak, had to face a challenging encounter against Aryna Sabalenka, where she had to tackle high-intensity heckling and disturbances from the crowd.
Reflecting on the incident, Roddick mentioned the fact that it is usual to face such disturbances when surrounded by a European crowd. He stated, “You can’t be shocked when you’re going to Europe and people whistle when you go to talk to the umpire. It happens a hundred percent of the time.” He also added that such behavior “gets worse at Roland Garros,” where fans are known to possess the highest levels of rage and enthusiasm.

The comment from Roddick highlighted the unique atmosphere of European tennis tournaments, where fans can be highly vocal and expressive. Collins’ experience in Madrid acted as a reminder of the mental strength required to tackle such situations on the court.
As Collins prepares for the upcoming Grand Slam event in Paris, it still remains to be seen if Roddick’s warning comes out to be true or if Collins swiftly navigates her way through the major event.

Just like Danielle Collins had to go through the noisy disturbances during her match against Aryna Sabalenka, Jelena Ostapenko became a target of heckling, but in a unique way. While it was anonymous fans who acted as culprits in Collins’ case, Ostapenko had to travel the same road against her opponent, Ons Jabeur’s close ones.

During her round of 16 match at the Madrid Open, Jabuer’s husband and coach became passionate about cheering for their star, forgetting that it could cross the line for her opponent. Ostapenko tried to keep herself calm for a while but somehow ended up lashing out at the Tunisian’s box, grabbing the spotlight.
This incident added another example of players going through immense heckling and booing during European tournaments. As the clay court season continues, it still remains to be seen if there’s more to the story.
