Playing her first match of the National Bank Open, the 18-year-old cruised to an easy 6-1, 6-3 victory. Thereafter, the American moved toward the chair umpire, Jesse Greene, for a handshake. Meanwhile, she engaged in a fun conversation, recommending him an alternative career.

“Your voice sounds like a TV announcer. You should be a voice actor. I’m serious. For extra money on the side,” she said.

Further, she added, “You sound like a cartoon character—in a good way. You have the most satisfying voice.”

While featuring in her first-round encounter of the Cincinnati Masters tournament, the tennis player suffered an injury scare. Subsequently, she retired midway through the game. Playing against Marie Bouzkova, she lost the first set 7-5. Struggling from an injured ankle, Gauff pulled out in the middle of the second set.

She thanked her fans for the good wishes and assured them that it was a minor injury and that she will be fit soon.

Notably, the American recently won the doubles title of the National Bank Open with compatriot Jessica Pegula. This has helped her to reach the top of the WTA doubles ranking. She is the second youngest to achieve this feat. The player stands behind former world number 1, Martina Hingis, on the list.

With not much time left for the US Open, her fans hope that the American regains full fitness on time.
