Ukrainian tennis star Elina Svitolina has been vocal about the sanction against Russian and Belarusian players because of the Ukraine-Russia conflict. When Wimbledon banned the players from Russia and Belarus, the Ukrainians took it as a welcome move. However, there was an equal number of voices against the decision as well. While the tennis community varies in opinion on this matter, Svitolina raised the issue again for next year’s summer Olympics in Paris. Later, she also engaged in a war of words with a random fan on her Twitter account.
Elina Svitolina engages in a Twitter banter
Recently Elina Svitolina flaunted her 2021 Tokyo Olympic bronze medal on Twitter. Further, she wrote in detail about the sanctions on Russian and Belarusian athletes. Her words indicated a call to ban them for the upcoming Paris Olympics as well.

Here’s what she wrote, “The Olympics are the biggest dream and ultimate privilege for athletes. They are the largest platform for inclusion and diversity in sports. Capturing the attention of the world. With this in mind, we must stick to banning Russian and Belarusian athletes. Sending a strong message worldwide.”

A Twitter user was not happy with the ideas Svitolina advocated and called her out. However, the 28-year-old gave a befitting reply. “Lucky me I already have a medal.. but your life highlight is probably a reply from me,” she wrote.

As per Forbes, athletes from Belarus and Russia can participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
However, they can not carry the flags of their respective countries and will play as independent Olympians.

Svitolina is yet to return in action from maternity leave
Tennis couple Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils recently welcomed their first child. The little one is adorable and, as a new mother, Svitolina is taking her time to adjust. While the fans are still waiting for her to return to the tennis court. Elina keeps sharing adorable pictures with her son to keep her fans engaged.

For now, there’s no update on her return date or tournament. However, the 28-year-old has plans to return in the 2023 season.
