‘Your Team Has No Respect!’ – Drama Unfolds at Miami Open as WTA Players Meet at the Net

Another “handshake” drama involving WTA players has been witnessed by the entire tennis community during the ongoing Miami Open. The highly anticipated tournament at Hard Rock Stadium is currently underway, with a number of top talents squaring off against each other. One such exciting matchup recently saw the Italian tennis player, Martina Trevisan, outshining her opponent, Nao Hibino in straight sets.

However, a controversial incident followed when the Japanese tennis player called out Trevisan’s team during their customary handshake at the net.

The 28-year-old tennis player put on some brilliant displays during the qualifiers rounds of the tournament in Miami Gardens. After finally securing a place in the event, Nao Hibino outclassed the Montenegrin tennis player, Danka Kovinić, in her first-round match. However, the Japanese tennis player couldn’t replicate the same remarkable performance in her next match against Martina Trevisan.

It was an easy win for the Italian tennis player who clinched victory in straight sets of 6-4, 6-3. After winning the round of 64, Trevisan approached her opponent for a customary post-match handshake at the net. However, Hibino was clearly frustrated with something involving the current Italian No. 1 player’s team.

Notably, she was spotted calling out Trevisan’s team during their exchange at the net. A video clip of their “handshake” drama has also got viral on Twitter. In that video clip, Hibino was spotted saying, “your team has no respect for players”

Some of the fans were curious about what actually irked the Japanese tennis star. Notably, one of the fans asked, “but what did they do?” 

It got a quick response from the user who uploaded the video of the controversial incident. He replied, “nothing in particular stood out but they were being pretty loud all match on a quiet court, possibly more so when Hibino was on their side of the court. maybe it was stuff they were saying 🤷”.

A similar handshake incident happened during the Indian Wells Masters

This is not the first time when the tennis community is witnessing a “handshake” drama involving WTA players. A similar incident happened between the Ukrainian tennis player, Lesia Tsurenko, and her opponent, Donna Vekic, at the BNP Paribas Open.

The Croatian tennis star was quite frustrated with her defeat, as suggested by her post-match behavior. When Tsurenko approached her for the customary handshake, she snubbed her by packing her bags on the sidelines.
