Chris Evert is one of the greatest players of all time. Going back to her playing days, one can recall her as a player having one of the most successful careers, winning an astonishing 18 Grand Slam singles titles. Being a prominent name in the tennis world even after her retirement, Evert is not new to giving interviews.

Going back in time, to 2016, Chris Evert indulged in an intense conversation with a media house. During the conversation, she threw light on her personal life and her friend’s reactions to her ‘single’ status.

Evert not looking to marry in the coming future

Despite being a prominent tennis entity, Chris Evert had to face the traumatic experience of three failed marriages. However, in spite of all the downfalls, the American legend has made sure not to have its effect reflect on her three sons from her second marriage. Her sons, who in Evert’s words, are her ‘life’. Getting into the conversation, Evert started by admitting, “I have no-one in my life right now apart from my sons – my three boys – and my work.”

Being one of the biggest tennis stars, Evert is often questioned about matters pertaining to the game and her impressive career. However, as one says, personal life tends to have an effect on your professional life. Considering her marital status, the former World No.1 was questioned if she will ever get married again. To which she replied, “I don’t know if I’ll ever marry again – never say never – but I’m not looking.”

Going ahead in the conversation, she further revealed, “When I tell my friends that, they all say “You’re Lying” but it’s true.”

While Evert had three back-to-back unsuccessful marriages, it is an undeniable fact that the marriages had their fair share of happiness and partnership. Recalling her married life, Evert admitted, “Since I can remember, I’ve always been with someone, always had a husband, so it’s been really good for me to be on my own and learn to feel comfortable with myself.”

It’s a little bit like a liberation for me. I think I need to be by myself to grow and know myself before I even consider getting into another relationship,” she further added.

The failed marriages of Chris Evert

After training from a young age, Chris Evert turned pro in 1972. Steadily climbing the ladder of success, Evert won her first grand slam in 1974. A year later, in 1975, she was also crowned the new World No.1. On the personal front, she married British male tennis star John Lloyd in 1979. After spending 8 years together, the two separated in 1987.

However, Evert didn’t spend much time alone as, the very next year, she married former Alpine ski racer, Andy Mill. Being together for 18 years, the two announced their separation in 2006. After spending some time alone for the next two years, Evert married Australian entrepreneur Greg Norman in 2008. However, the two called it quits in 2009, just a year after their marriage.

Ever since then, Evert has opted to stay single. Having faced the unpleasantness of broken marriages, she has opted to raise her three sons by herself.
