The 18-year-old rose to fame after her stunning victory against Venus Williams at Wimbledon 2019. Later, the teenage sensation also played a doubles match alongside Venus. Here’s what she said about the experience of being friends with the legend.
Coco Gauff cherishes playing doubles alongside Venus Williams
Gauff gained her initial glory after she defeated Venus Williams at Wimbledon 2019. The legend was all praise for Gauff after the match. Later, Venus also featured in a doubles match alongside Gauff. Remembering the match, Gauff earlier said, “I remember her telling me, ‘You’re the only person that I teamed up with besides Serena in women’s doubles.’ And I was like, ‘That’s an honor. That’s an honor.’ I didn’t realize she didn’t play with anyone else. I mean, I just didn’t even think about it. And I was like, ‘Wow, that’s pretty cool.'”

She further added, “I would say that was probably even more incredible than actually playing her, just because, I mean, I dreamed about playing them, but I never thought that I would play doubles with them. And yeah, that was crazy.”

Venus Williams is not very regular on the tour now, while Serena Williams recently played her last match. Now that the post-Williams era has started, Gauff is the perfect person to take the legacy ahead.

Gauff suffered a slump in form
Coco Gauff had an overall brilliant year. She made it to the French Open final and also made it to the US Open quarterfinals. The 18-year-old performed consistently in the other tournaments as well and secured her berth in the year-end WTA Finals.
However, world number 7 could not finish her year on high. She suffered five straight defeats at the end of the year. Three of those were in the WTA Finals that she played at Texas. The local favorite lost against Caroline Garcia, Daria Kasatkina, and world number 1 Iga Swiatek in the group stage of the tournament.

Later she lost her only singles match at the Billie Jean King Cup against Katerina Siniakova. Although it was a disappointing end, she had a good season overall. The 18-year-old will be eager to make a fresh start in the new season.
