American Tennis Legend to Initiate Proceedings for Super Bowl LVI

Over the years, many great players have enthralled fans of the sport of tennis. One amongst them is the American legend Billie Jean King, who will do the coin toss at the Super Bowl this weekend. The 78-year-old has an astonishing 39 Grand Slam titles to her credit across all formats. She won 12 major titles in singles, 16 women’s doubles titles, and 11 mixed doubles titles.

The American ruled the tennis world during the 70s and the 80s. Many regard her as one of the greatest players to have graced women’s tennis. Additionally, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987. She will make her presence felt at one of the major sporting events in the United States this weekend.

Billie Jean King will do the coin toss at the Super Bowl

The American legend has been selected as one of the legendary coin toss captains for Sunday’s Super Bowl 56.

Further, reacting to this, she said, “It’s an honor to stand with these outstanding student athletes & celebrate the 50th anniversary of Title IX on one of the world’s biggest stages.”

Title IX is also known as Patsy Takemoto Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act. It was signed into law on June 23, 1972. It stated that “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” The year 2022 will mark the 50th anniversary of this act.
