Danielle Collins had a strong start at the Paris Olympics by winning her opening match against Germany’s Laura Siegemund. Collins secured the victory with a score of 6-3, 2-0 before Siegemund retired.

After her win, Collins shared how players from other teams often express their desire to join Team USA, owing to the acts of their team lead, Coco Gauff. “I can’t tell you how many people have come up to me and said, ‘Oh my goodness, I wish I was on Team USA because you guys are the nicest, the kindest, the most genuine,'” Collins said, giving out Team USA’s immense popularity in the glorious event.

Besides Collins, her teammate and team lead, Gauff, also performed exceptionally. She secured a massive win in her opening round singles match against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanović with a remarkable 6-3, 6-0 in just 57 minutes. Gauff also dominated in the doubles category with her partner Jessica Pegula, taking down the Australian duo Ellen Perez and Daria Saville, 6-3, 6-1.

Both Collins and Gauff are exploring the heights of the Olympics for the first time in their career. Although their dynamics are quite opposite to each other, they still work well as a team, attracting even the competitor’s attention.

Collins is enjoying her time at the games. She revealed her excitement behind the experience, saying, “I think it’s even more special when you’re an American getting the opportunity to do this because you don’t get to be on the Olympic team unless you’re, like, in the top-15 in the world, right?”

The 30-year-old WTA star is currently exploring the peak moments of her career. As Team USA collectively continues to captivate the attention of fans, all eyes are on the glorious medals. However, Collins also revealed how she’s building new connections with Irish athletes.

“How cool is that? So we got to talking and I made some new friends. And got the Irish pin – of course. It’s been really interesting to cross paths with athletes, Irish athletes, and to connect with them because I guess they’re really pumped that I’m also Irish,” Collins said. It has been nearly three days since the action of the Games began in Paris and the 30-year-old is living the last few moments of her career to the fullest.
