The debate over one word becomes a trend every four years during the World Cup. Global fans have frequently questioned why American fans refer to the sport as soccer rather than football. However, when Coco Gauff used the apt word, fans soon showed their happiness for the American tennis star. Gauff recently took to her Twitter handle and tweeted about the final football match of the 2022 World Cup final.

One of the most entertaining games in recent memory was the France vs. Argentina FIFA World Cup final in 2022. The final score was 3-3 after extra time. The game ended in the South American country’s favor after France missed two crucial penalty kicks in the final shootout.

Gauff the ‘full football fan’ tweeted, “i’m a football fan now. wow probably best sporting event I’ve watched. So many emotions.” Fans quickly brushed aside the message behind the tweet and pointed out the word “football” in her tweet.

However, Gauff’s impressive 2022 season came to an end with the longest losing streak of her young career—five matches. Before this point in her career on the junior circuit, the World no.7  tennis player had never lost more than three straight games.

Gauff was enthusiastic about supporting the United States Men’s National Team at the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Her brother, Cameron Gauff, was particularly excited about the match between the United States and England. Before the match, Coco took to TikTok and presented her specially created, patriotic-themed sneakers in the video with her brother.
