Serena Williams’ former coach praises immigrant soccer star

As the discussion around the immigration status heats up, one player hailing from an immigrant family has already made her mark. Rennae Stubbs, former coach of Serena Williams and the host of power hour, announced her pro-immigration mindset. She shared the achievements of the soccer star Naomi Girma, who has a sparkling resume.

Naomi’s father, Girma Aweke, is an immigrant who fled his country during the war in Ethiopia. However, he did not let his past hold him back. He began a kids’ soccer club in San Jose and even enrolled his daughter. She would engage in several other sports but decided to stick with soccer. Since then, she has been the captain of Stanford’s soccer team, came back after a torn ACL, and finished her Master’s in Engineering.

Stubbs, highly impressed by her accomplishments, wrote, “For those of you so worried about immigrants, these are their stories and they should be told! They’re literally the backbone of the USA“.
