Everyone in the tennis and soccer worlds knows about the fact that Serena Williams’ daughter, Olympia is the youngest co-owner of a women’s soccer team. But, do you know that the five-year-old doesn’t know that she is the youngest owner in the professional sporting world today? A few years back, Alexis Ohanian, as a primary investor, invested a good chunk of money in Angel City FC and also deemed it to be a solid future investment for his daughter. Additionally, he invested in his daughter’s name, giving her the opportunity to stand out at just five years old.

He said, “Right now all Olympia knows is that Angel City FC is our team, and she loves cheering for them. I think as she gets older, maybe she’ll come to see the different layers to it. Obviously, being the youngest owner of pro sports is pretty fun, but she doesn’t actually understand that she is the youngest owner in pro sports.”

Back in 2020, the Reddit co-founder made an investment on behalf of his daughter in the women’s soccer team, and today the LA-based soccer team is worth $100 million. But the question is, what made the 39-year-old American entrepreneur make this huge investment decision for his daughter?

What inspired Williams’ husband to make such a huge investment on behalf of his daughter?

Last year, in a video press conference shared by NWSL on Twitter, the Reddit co-founder was asked why he invested on behalf of his daughter. In that video, he explained the real motivation behind the decision by recalling a conversation with his tennis legend wife. He recalled that seeing Olympia run around in an Alex Morgan jersey during the 2019 World Cup final made the doting father think that it would be great if one day his daughter gets an opportunity to play in the soccer World Cup.

And when he shared this feeling with his wife, the ‘Queen of the Court’ pointed out the fact, saying not until they pay her what she is worth for. This was an indirect remark at the gender pay gap that is an often talked-about issue in the sports world. And her remark inspired the Reddit co-founder to make a significant investment in the women’s soccer team for his daughter’s future.
