Martina Navratilova has joined a slew of soccer fans in the recent debate over who was the actual goal scorer for Portugal’s opener against Uruguay during the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Many fans claimed that it was the 5-time Ballon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the first goal for Portugal. However, later on, the Manchester United star, Bruno Fernandes, was announced as the official goalscorer.
As a result, various controversies surrounding Ronaldo’s ‘ghost touch’ got emerged on social media asserting that he was the actual goalscorer. Navratilova took note of this and further expressed her own opinion on the ongoing debate over the ‘ghost goal’.

They claimed that it was Cristiano Ronaldo who got the faintest of touches to put the ball in the net. However, the FIFA authorities cleared the air by announcing that it was Bruno Fernandes. Just like a slew of soccer fans, Bruno Fernandes was a bit skeptical about who scored the opener. Notably, the Manchester United star also revealed that he initially thought it was his teammate who got the faintest of touches to put the ball in the bottom corner.

In doing so, she also mocked a renowned British broadcaster who has always placed Ronaldo over Messi. The former Czech–American tennis player criticized Piers Morgan for ‘writing off’ the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner.
