As the delighted father of a five-year-old daughter who shares Serena Williams‘ athletic prowess, Alexis Ohanian is working to make the women’s sports arena safer for his daughter’s bright future. With his investment in the women’s soccer league a few years ago, he started a small revolution that has brought a lot of help to female athletes.
But that doesn’t mean he is doing this out of pity or charity. He aims to make the women’s arena just as valuable as the men’s. And while he was trying to take his first step with his $100M investment in Angel City FC, there was a moment when he himself realized how deeply sexism flows in women’s sports. Recently, years after investing in the Los Angeles-based soccer team, he recalled an instance where people looked up to the sport.

Serena Williams’ husband reveals a past incident triggering sexism in women’s sports
One after the other, with his investments, the Reddit co-founder is working hard to make women’s sports a better place. But in his journey, when he was just entering the sporting business, he had a weird encounter with one of the women’s soccer team owners, which shocked him. And years after actually bringing small changes as a businessman, Ohanian re-called, explaining how blatantly sexist it is in the women’s spring world.
He recently took to his Instagram account to share a video of himself in which he revealed a conversation. In that conversation, he revealed how some team owners had nothing to do with the team’s success. And shared how for him, investment in women’s soccer was compared to nothing. In the video, Ohanian recalled the exact same words from the soccer team owner. The Reddit co-founder said, “Yeah, I’m looking to sell this thing. To be honest, I started it a bunch of years ago because I thought. It’d be kind of nice to have a “Girls Sports team” because my daughter was in soccer.”
Listening to this, the 40-year-old American entrepreneur was stunned by the businessman’s mindset. ” I thought so this entire time you have owned this business and your entire mindset has been one of like a weird self-loathing charity pit,” he added.
