Recently, Ohanian also emphasized the rise of women’s sports. According to him, women’s sports will be huge in the future, and investing in them will always be profitable. That’s why he invested in the women’s soccer club, Angel City FC, the Los Angeles-based club. As the soccer club is getting ready to play their first NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League), Ohanian talked about the reason he invested in this club. 

Alexis Ohanian opens up about investing in Angel City FC

It is no secret that Alexis Ohanian has been a great advocate for women’s sports. Moreover, his wife, Serena, is arguably the greatest female athlete of all time. In a recent interview, he opened up about his investment in Angel City FC and said, “Ten or 15 years from now, when people look at Angel City FC, I think they’ll actually see this one as being the most obvious.”

“There’s a million people on Twitter right now who are going to say no one watches women’s sports. The message I have for them is facts don’t care about your feelings. The data shows Americans would rather watch two women in the U.S. Open,” the Reddit co-founder further said. 

He also talked about gaining profits from the soccer club. “It takes it out of the realm of what feels right and puts it in the realm of cold capitalism. To be clear, being profitable is absolutely goal No. 1,” he added.

Notably, Angel City FC will start their official NWSL campaign today against North Carolina. The team’s star player, Christen Press, is also getting ready to start her campaign with the newly promoted club. Their pre-season games already garnered many viewers across the USA. Now, if they perform well, they will surely attract many more viewers, not only from the US but also from all over the world.

Aparat from Ohanian, Serena Williams also became a part-owner of Angel City FC, when it was founded by Hollywood star Natalie Portman. Even Serena’s daughter Olympia also became one, possibly the youngest owner ever.
