Right now, FIFA fever has overtaken the world. Even athletes from various arenas are rooting for their favorite team during the world cup. Venus Williams shares the same passion for the American soccer squad. The US soccer team was defeated by the Netherlands earlier this month, ending their World Cup run. Williams’ interview from the 2010 season, when she had started showing an interest in sports, springs to mind in light of the 2010 World Cup’s same elimination.

The Williams sisters ruled the tennis courts for decades before the younger sister decided to retire from the sport earlier this year.

Venus Williams found soccer intriguing

The seven-time Grand Slam Champions back in 2010 stated that she only started watching soccer because of her sister Serena Williams. But then, with growing time, she enjoyed the game and seeing her home country win goals excited her. However, at that time, Williams was newly introduced to the sport. And was not quite aware of the rules and regulations of the game.

Williams holds a stake in a soccer team

In 2009, Williams, along with her younger sister, became the first female American African athlete to own stakes in NFL.
