She was one of the few players who excelled in both singles as well as doubles. She had a legendary doubles career, winning an astonishing 21 Grand Slam women’s doubles titles.
Shriver happens to be the sister of Maria Shriver, who was Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife. In 1998, Shriver married Joe Shapiro after ending her playing career. She once opened up about why she married Joe despite his battle against cancer.

The two tied the knot in a celebrity-filled wedding in Palm Springs. At that time, Joe was suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. Explaining her decision to tie the knot with Joe despite his cancer diagnosis, Shriver said, “There’s always a time in a relationship when you can pull back.”

Further, she went on to add, “Three years ago when I realized I was falling for a guy with a complicated medical history, I decided not to exit. Believe me, I made the right decision.”

Shriver criticizes US Open
Recently, the American tennis legend criticized the US Open for coming out harshly against a fan who highlighted their mistake on the tournament’s social media page. She said, “Hey Andrew has become a twitter space pal and very knowledgeable about tennis. I thought your response to his correction was not cool. We need to treat all fans of tennis with respect.”
