The roots of the case date back to February when Griner was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport. As per the Russian officials, the 31-year-old was detained for reportedly carrying small amounts of prohibited substances. After spending months in the Russian prison, the WNBA star was sentenced to 9 years in prison, along with a fine of 1 million ruble.

While King has been active on social media for Griner, she has made sure to not let the case affect her professional life. On the professional front, King has been regularly taking part in various talk shows as a tennis expert. On the Grand Slam front, she was last seen presenting the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.
