Coming out to the ring, Copeland wore his 17-year-old attire that he wore during his match with Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22. This was a massive shock that even the AEW commentary team made a mention of it. This was symbolic and a nod to the equation the two former friends enjoyed before things went downhill.

The match between Foley and Edge is still ranked among the best hardcore matches in the WWE. Taking place near the end of the Attitude Era, the match is a clear example of the brutality the wrestlers were willing to endure. Unlike today’s hardcore matches, the one at WM 22 was a thing of beauty.

The callbacks to the Wrestlemania 22 match by Copeland

Fortunately for the fans, the attire was not the only thing Copeland did that was nostalgic. Knowing the impact of the match he had with Foley 17 years ago, Copeland recreated some of those spots. The most memorable is the burning table. At Wrestlemania 22, while a table was on fire, Edge speared Foley through it from the apron.

Copeland recreated this by setting a table on fire and trying to powerbomb Nick Wayne through it. However, the table did not break and Wayne went flying on the floor. The match itself was brilliant, with hints of the aggression Copeland had during his match with Foley. All an all, it was a great match, becoming one of the best of the night even if the finish is something not everybody could get behind.
