In recent times, especially following the ECW and WCW, the company that is compared closest to WWE is AEW. However, while fans thought that the old promotions had their redeeming factors, AEW has been considered a rip-off by fans. The same weekly shows, championship titles, and more have led fans to wonder whether AEW is more than just a copy. However, there is another thing that Tony Khan might have to defend now. Despite the storyline with The Young Bucks having gone on for years, it seems that WWE has outshined the promotion in doing the same but using major stars like The Rock to attract viewers.

Despite AEW beating WWE to the punch, WWE has managed to pull it off better

While fans have been speculating about this for a very long time, former WWE commentator and manager, Jim Cornette decided to call it out. The story from AEW that he thought was very familiar to that of WWE is the recent direction in which the Young Bucks are headed. In case you missed it, the brothers are being portrayed as the mean EVPs of the promotion who will not let anyone get in their way.

However, Cornette believes that this has led fans to think that AEW is simply copying WWE, due to how they’ve handled it. He said, “It looks like that AEW is doing a minor league, junior high school ripoff of the big angle in the WWE. When in actuality, they came up with it first. They’re just doing it with real, actual f***ing megastars.”

Cornette also mentioned that the story is running in parallel with WWE’s current storyline involving Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Cody Rhodes. Johnson became one of the Board of Directors at the TKO Group and since then has been wreaking havoc.

But it looks like the President of AEW is trying to go in a different direction with his other program, AEW Rampage. Whether it is out of inspiration or a creative hint is yet to be known.

AEW Rampage has a change of tone

On this week’s episode of AEW Collison, Khan announced a major match for next week’s Rampage. The episode which will be aired on March 20, will feature a Team Street Fight between  Kris Statlander & Willow Nightingale vs. Skye Blue and TBS Champion Julia Hart. However, according to AEW, it is not going to be any other ordinary street fight.

Rampage has previously witnessed a women’s street fight in the past twice. The said street fights had taken an ugly turn both times as the matches turned into a bloodbath. Considering the latest drop in ratings even with Mercedes Mone returning and the accusations of copying storylines, do you think this street fight will help him bounce back?
