New AEW Signing Explains Why He Chose Tony Khan’s Roster Despite Offer From WWE

It is no news for fans that Tony Khan’s AEW and WWE have been at war with each other. While the promotions might not show it or be vocal about it, they are aware that fans invoke comparisons. This also means that they are always in a race to secure the best and the hottest talent for their roster. A while back, the topic of where the Arial Assasin Will Ospreay might head was in discussions. While many wanted him to make his way to WWE, the star decided to choose AEW instead. Ospreay recently broke his silence and revealed why he chose AEW over four-decade-old WWE.

What made Will Ospreay work with Tony Khan?

In an interview with Gamespot, the Arial Assasin talked about things like his history with Assasin’s Creed video games, his time at NJPW, and the reason behind choosing AEW over WWE. As stated by him, AEW was not always an option, as there was an offer from WWE ready for him. However, one thing about Tony Khan made him change his decision. The reason why he decided to head with AEW was because he had trust in the President of AEW.

He added, “I want to know what I’m doing within the ring, and the rest, for me, is easy.” According to Ospreay, Khan gives him the time he needs before a match and respects him. He further added by saying, “What more could you want from a boss?”

Khan and Ospreay do share a long history with each other. The two have been working with each other since the first Forbidden Door was opened between AEW and NJPW. Up until now, Ospreay has worked with AEW for almost 10 matches.

Now that he is set to make his debut at AEW soon, Will Ospreay has a checklist to fulfill when he enters the Jacksonville-based promotion.

What does Will Ospreay want to accomplish at AEW?

It has been stated by Tony Khan that Ospreay will be joining AEW once he fulfills his contract with NJPW. Now that he has wrapped up his last match at NJPW, he believes there are a lot of things that he wants to accomplish at AEW. The first on his list is to be at the main event for the 2024 AEW All Out at the Wembley Stadium. He still remembers his first match against Chris Jericho. Ospreay stated that he wants to go beyond that.

He also added that this might be a change from his time at NJPW. Apart from going after the championship titles, he stated that he wants to test himself in an entirely different setup. Ospreay stated that NJPW is more of a sports-based setup. On the other hand, Tony Khan’s AEW and WWE focus more on the personalities. For me pro wrestling has two things that I like the most, storytelling and fighting. Let?s just say movies are failing to keep me entertained in those departments. I grew up watching WWF and not WWE and any hardcore fan will agree that the two are not the same, but I love both iterations.
