Regardless of anything he does, Tony Khan barely gets out of the critics’ gunpoint. Even after pulling out a fairytale retirement for Sting and a grand Mercedes Mone debut, the viewership numbers aren’t quite in his favor, leaving an ample chance for the naysayers to rant. Booker T grabbed that loophole right and bashed the AEW Boss again for the same talent-stockpiling policy.

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T has been a notable wrestling voice for a while now and when it comes to the AEW chief, it’s safe to say that he’s not a fan.

Tony Khan pitched his AEW Big Business move with utmost care. From doing a fair amount of pre-show marketing to keeping a degree of intrigues and big matchups on display, it was all put together as methodical as it could be. But still, the copious effort didn’t result in massive ratings. As per the WWE veteran, the gap occurred because he has more to do than just taking more superstars in the house and spending a lot of money on them. An off-center mindset might only save him in the long term.

”Tony Khan is really putting all his eggs in this thing and saying we’re going to do but the way I see it though is he’s catering to an AEW audience he’s not catering he’s catering to that 700 to a million fans that they have right now he’s not catering to anything outside of that box. Bringing Will Ospreay in, bringing Okada in to wrestle, when you can bring anybody in to wrestle, it’s not going to move the needle”, Booker T stated on AEW’s recent signings.

However, it is to be noted that the Big Business show was a sell-out event in the TD Garden, the home of the Boston Celtics. With nearly 10,000 tickets sold this episode of TV had near PPV level of attendance. Additionally, drawing over 800k in viewership is hardly a rating to be upset about. He might be right about casual fans not knowing Ospreay or Okada, but given interest WWE had in them it’s safe to say they were top free agents any promotion would want. Mone on the other hand, is a name that casuals will recognise, given her historic run in WWE.

So it seems Booker’s contradicting his own argument, something he’s done numerous times in the past. So how reliable is Booker T’s words actually?

The Hall of Fame Podcast with Booker T and Brad Gilmore is a treasure trove of controversial takes. The unreliable nature of Booker’s words began when Corey Graves replaced him as color commentator on RAW and Booker took to his podcast to say if he say Graves in the street he would fight him because he felt Graves was responsible for his removal. With these spicy words gaining traction, Graves was invited to the podcast to squash the beef, only to find out that Booker made the whole thing up to “work” the fans.

That coupled with his recent claim to have an altercation with CM Punk in NXT where he said he didn’t want the news to become public. This was comical as it was Booker that uploaded the clip on his YouTube channel with the title: “CM Punk and Booker T almost “get into it” at WWE NXT tapings”. Way to keep it from becoming public, Book.
