‘Rest in Peace Legend’: Xavier Woods and AEW Star Join Hands To Mourn the Demise of Rocky Star Carl Weathers

The world was struck with the news of Carl Weathers’ untimely demise. The star was known for his roles in several action flicks such as Predator, Toy Story, and famously, the Rocky franchise. He was also a famed television star, with leading roles in Street Justice and In The Heat of the Night, and more recently in The Mandalorian.
However, he was most recognizable as his character Apollo Creed alongside Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky movies. One WWE star, Xavier Woods took to social media to share how much the character had inspired him in his pro wrestling career.
A touching tribute to Carl Weathers

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Woods, who commonly goes by the name Austin Creed, shared how the star helped him as an idol. He mentioned in his tweet that since his debut in pro wrestling back in 2004, he had drawn inspiration from Weathers’ portrayal of Apollo Creed. He also mentioned that Creed happens to be his favorite character. Woods wrote, “When I started wrestling in 2004 I had no idea what or who I wanted to be. It wasn’t long before my favorite character, Apollo Creed, became my inspiration.”

In the photos he shared on X, fans could see all the attires he used over the years which were inspired by the iconic character from Rocky movies. He thanked the late star for being his inspiration. Woods used to go by the name of Austin Woods when he started as a pro wrestler working at various indie circuits. While his gimmicks changed names throughout the years, the essence of Apollo Creed remained in all of them.

Xavier Woods was not the only one to pay tribute to Carl Weathers. Another pro wrestler and AEW star Miro, took to the social media platform X to share a pic with Weathers along with an iconic line from his movie. Miro wrote, “Rest in Peace to a legend. Thank you for being amazing. Don’t push too many pencils in Heaven.”

In the photo, Miro could be seen doing the iconic handshake from the Predator movie. In the movie, Weathers shared this handshake with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and since has become a relic of pop culture. The ‘pencil’ line is a reference to another iconic movie of the late star, Predator.

The demise of the Rocky star was announced by his family on February 2nd, 2024. The star was 76 years old. According to his family, he “died peacefully in his sleep” and his cause of death has not been disclosed.
