Tony Khan’s Female AEW Roster Goes on a Sarcastic Rant About Gender Equality

Former AEW Women’s World Champion Saraya took to X on December 29th to post a TikTok clip from her official account. From the content of the video, it could be inferred that it was a rant from the female wrestlers about gender equality. It is a part of the ongoing call from people about the gender equality in various aspects of life.

The clip contains multiple messages ranging from personal rants to general complaints related to the plight of female wrestlers. It follows the template of “We’re female wrestlers and…” and then is followed by what they have to deal with. It’s particularly poignant as well as comical. 

AEW Women’s division takes help from Tiktok to deliver a message

The video features multiple female wrestlers from the AEW rosters including AEW Women’s World Champion Timeless Toni Storm. Saraya says, “We’re female wrestlers and our camera guys are perverts” (jokingly). She was seen in another section of the clip alongside Riho where she says “We’re female wrestlers and our stitches match our outfits”

The video follows other female superstars from the Women’s division. Willow Nightingale says, “We’re female wrestlers, of course we have bruises and don’t know where they came from”. AEW World Champion Toni Storm hilariously says, “We’re female wrestlers, of course I do nervous sh*ts before I make it out to the ring”. Nyla Rose says, “I’m a female wrestler. Which means half of you don’t think I have any talent purely because you’re not attracted to me”. Alluding to the misogynistic nature of a portion of wrestling fans who only look at women as sex objects.

The powerhouse of AEW Women’s division, Kris Statlander closes out the clip by saying, “We’re female wrestlers and no matter how hard we try, everybody hates us. Even though this is our job and I’m on TV and you’re not.” Shortly after Statlander goes on a half-serious, half-joking rant.

“But like no matter how hard I try, how hard I work, you don’t know what I’ve been through. I blew out both my knees for this. I try so hard. Why won’t the internet like us? what do we do? what do you need from us? How much do I need to hurt myself for you?” Before she could finish her message, she was taken out by her colleagues thus ending the clip.

The crux of the clip could be summed as various performers vented out their frustration regarding the gender inequality in the pro-wrestling business. Wrestling is a male dominated industry and for decades women’s wrestling has been relegated to the sidelines relegated to filler content often of a sexual nature. This video serves of a meta-commentary of that status quo.
