Tony Khan decided to shock the world when he presented legendary star Ric Flair as a ‘gift’ to Sting. This is the first time fans have witnessed this happening. According to Khan, he has done this in the wake of Sting’s retirement from pro wrestling. The two stars will be reunited at the AEW Revolution 2024. But do you know, there is a very special reason why Flair will be present at Sting’s retirement match at the AEW Revolution in 2024?

Ric Flair and Sting share a storied history

Fans are aware that the Nature Boy and The Vigilante have a rivalry as old as time. The two icons locked their horns for the first time back in 1988 during their time at the National Wrestling Alliance. Sting proved himself to be a rising star at the Continental Wrestling Association and Universal Wrestling Federation and was one of the few who received the chance to transition to NWA in 1987.

Flair, on the other hand, became a staple at NWA after his debut in 1974. During the decade that he had before Sting’s NWA debut, he had won many championships and even earned the moniker of Nature Boy. The two clashed at the Clash of the Champions event in 1988 at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. What made this bout so special was the fact that the two fought for 45 minutes, making it a remarkable feat.

After their first confrontation, the two feuded again and again. Their rivalry had seen many ups and downs. At one point, they tried to defeat each other, and at other times, they notably allied, with Sting being a part of Flair’s Four Horseman wrestling stable.

Now that we have an idea about their history, let’s have a look at how things might turn out at the AEW Revolution 2024.

Is Sting in for a betrayal?

It is said that the rivalry between the two legends ended in 2011 during their time at TNA Wrestling. However, fans should not forget that the venue for Sting’s final match as it has a troubled past. Their first match we talked about earlier happened at the Greensboro Coliseum. Well, AEW Revolution is set to happen at the same place, where Flair and Sting fought almost 35 years ago.

As for now, Sting and his tag team partner, Darby Allin face off against The Young Bucks at AEW Revolution in a bid to save their AEW World Tag Team Championship titles.
