Holywood buffs have been in a frenzy as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie are set to clash in theatre on July 21. Now, the wrestling world might be sorted with their first pick with John Cena starring in a cameo role in the highly popularised movie, Barbie.

Cena will flaunt his versatility by swapping his usual tough-guy persona in the wrap of a merman named ‘Kenmaid’ in Barbie. One more thing that stirred mass discussion is John Cena and renowned pop celebrity Dua Lipa pairing up in the movie. That said, it’s not going to be the only time the duo will share the space on the big screen.

However, the specifics of his character shade were still in the dark. But, this much came to light that he will be seen pulling off a romantic angle with the mermaid Barbie aka Dua Lipa.

Fans have already found their heart pumping faster as the hours are ticking down until they start flocking to movie theaters to watch Cena and Lipa in their beautiful attires of a merman and mermaid. Ahead of that, let’s look back at another unreleased movie, in which the former WWE Champion has been cast alongside the pop sensation.

Dua Lipa signed her first-ever major acting gig in Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller film, Argylle, back in 2021. Based on the eponymous novel by Ellie Conway, the movie tells a tale of an accomplished spy as he scours the globe on a fast-paced adventure.

John Cena joined the “Levitating” singer alongside a star-studded cast that includes eminent names like Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, and Samuel L. Jackson.

However, fans, for now, are waiting with bated breath to experience the magic Cena and Lipa will splash on the screen as a pair in Barbie. But Cena ended up landing in Barbie Land is a hell of a story you shouldn’t miss out on.

John Cena landing his role in Barbie had an interesting backstory

John Cena has recently spilled the intriguing story of how a serendipitous encounter with Margot Robbie led to him securing the role of Merman Ken in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film, Barbie.

He said that he met Robbie while working on the sets of his recent film Fast X, which happened to be near Barbie’s set. Cena said that it was destiny that led to him being offered the part of Merman Ken, something, sort of, he never did earlier.

The former WWE superstar recounted the story, saying, “I haven’t worked with Margot before. We literally randomly ran into each other as friends. Fast X was filming across the street from Barbie.’Why don’t you do Barbie?’ I said, ‘I’ve been trying!’ And Margot makes a lot of the decisions for that, and I said, ‘Well, I’ll do whatever you need.'”

Now, we need to wait for the next year to draw a constructive comparison between the effect of John Cena- Dua Lipa’s united star power in ‘Barbie’ and ‘Argylle’.
