Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most recognizable soccer stars across the globe. The Portuguese international enjoys fame and popularity like few other soccer players do. For many fans, he’s probably the best player of this generation and an all-time great. His fandom also extends beyond soccer. However, Ronaldo doesn’t impress one WWE star who had a lot to say about him.

Ronaldo has won a plethora of trophies and awards in soccer and has scored the most international goals. His charisma also means people follow him for his persona as much as for his ability on the field.
But it seems the former WWE Champion Sheamus isn’t a big fan. In an interview from last year, The Celtic Warrior said Ronaldo isn’t one of the greatest players ever while commenting on his on-field antics.
Sheamus threw shade at Cristiano Ronaldo
WWE stars sharing their thoughts on celebrities or other athletes has been quite common in the past. Many athletes have also crossed over to WWE and have had a showdown or two against the wrestlers.
In an interview with UK’s BT Sport in 2021, WWE star Sheamus talked about Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo has won the best soccer player award, the Ballon d’Or, five times and many widely regard him as one of the greatest players of all time. But Sheamus, who is a soccer fan, took an exception to that idea.

It is to be noted that Sheamus is a supporter of the Liverpool soccer team who are the arch rivals of Ronaldo’s Manchester United side. The Brawling Brute member had a little nice to say about Ronaldo.
He admitted Ronaldo was a world-class player but said, “Is Ronaldo one of the greatest players ever? Absolutely not, he’s not. But he’s definitely a world-class player and one of the best that’s been in the last decade.” Moreover, he added that Ronaldo often makes a play for the camera, saying, “But even if he scores a penalty, he’s all about the camera mate. You know what I mean? Shirt off, ‘Where’s the camera?’ Even if he scores a penalty. I’m not knocking the guy or hating on him, but he knows exactly what he is doing.”

The host also asked Sheamus did this mean Ronaldo is a good fit for WWE due to his showboating. The 267lb wrestler replied, “He wouldn’t last five seconds in the ring. He’s too soft, he’s too soft, bro. Those players that go down when the wind blows or a blade of grass hits their shin. They wouldn’t last two minutes. I mean, he’s got the showmanship but nothing else. He’s got no physicality, that’s what I mean.”

Sheamus’ comments about Ronaldo’s showmanship are interesting, especially in light of recent events surrounding the soccer star. In a recent interview, Cristiano Ronaldo openly criticized his current club Manchester United and said he doesn’t respect the coach Erik Ten Hag. He also accused the club of ‘betraying’ him and said that the owners “don’t care about the club”. This has rendered his position at the club untenable and many expect him to move to a different team once the FIFA World Cup in Qatar is over.
