CM Punk & Drew McIntyre Trade Barbs, Major Championship Match Announced, & More: WWE Raw 01/08 Highlights & Results

With only a few weeks to go for the Royal Rumble 2024 PLE, things heated up on this episode of WWE Monday Night RAW. CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, The Miz, and many more were all set to make an appearance and the fans at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon got their money’s worth. Here is everything that went down on WWE RAW.

As the weeks and days to the Royal Rumble PLE get closer, the tension between the wrestlers heats up. Drew McIntyre opened the show to talk about his match with Seth Rollins last week at Day 1 Edition. From calling Damian Priest an idiot for costing him the title to CM Punk getting a hero’s welcome after returning after 9 years, McIntyre talked about everything.

This led to Punk coming out to the ring to confront McIntyre. The fans at the Moda Center, Portland, Oregon blew the roof off for Punk. McIntyre called Punk a demon, to which he responded he was Satan. The two talked about the Royal Rumble and the prospects of winning it. With both men being confident that they would seal the win, things were heating up before Punk claimed no one could stop him and walked away from the ring. This was after he called out Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins and claimed he’d throw McIntyre out last.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa

Both men put on a fast-paced match with multiple counters. Balor and Ciampa both displayed great ring awareness and athletic ability. Both men came out with their partners who didn’t hesitate to take each other out outside the ring with Johnny Gargano standing tall over Priest. With Balor distracted, Ciampa picked up the win with a flash pin.

Backstage segment: Becky Lynch is interviewed after losing her match last week to Nia Jax. Lynch claimed that she was ready for her match with Jax and after losing, she just walked it off and was back for the Royal Rumble.

Winner: None due to a double count-out draw

In a sequel to the match that never concluded last week between Imperium vs. Jey Uso and Kofi Kingston. Kaiser came swinging hard right off the gate. While Kofi was able to keep Kaiser at bay, it was clear he was after revenge. Both men took the match to the ringside and were blinded by rage, they missed the ten count by the referee.

Post-match: Despite losing the match and the bell ringing, the two kept going at each other. Kingston hit Kaiser with a suicide dive while security came out. Even with people trying to pull them apart, Kaiser launched a chair at Kingston to knock him out. This did not stop Kaiser from trying to choke Kingston out.

Backstage segment: Kaiser is interviewed backstage after his assault on Kingston. He claims it was not his fault, as Kingston had it coming.

In-ring segment: Michael Cole interviews Nia Jax, who claims she’s more focused than ever. She even threatens to break Cole’s face as she did with Lynch. Before finishing her sentence that no man or woman could stop her, Rhea Ripley comes out to the ring. The two bicker about the Royal Rumble and whether Jax will win or not. Jax claims that if she does, Ripley is who she is coming after.

Backstage segment: Cody Rhodes, who was about to be interviewed, gets attacked by Shinsuke Nakamura.

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven vs. Katana Chance and Kayden Carter for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

Winner: Katana Chance and Kayden Carter retaining the Women’s Tag Team titles

The match started with Green being caught in the wrong corner. Chance and Carter were quick to isolate her and ensure she did not tag Niven. However, after getting the tag and also getting the upper hand, Niven accidentally hit Green with the Vader Bomb. Chance and Carter were able to take advantage of this for the win.

Backstage announcement: The match between Cody Rhodes and Shinsuke Nakamura will now be a street fight after the brawl earlier.

Video package: A video package plays recounting why R-Turth is trying so hard to be part of Judgment Day. Hilarious and a high-quality package.

Backstage segment: The Judgment Day watch R-Truth’s video package and Priest finds it hilarious. He claims he will handle R-Truth when the time comes. They talk about handling DIY for the tag team gold, Jax for the women’s title. As a part of their ploy, he instructed JD McDonagh to handle The Miz.

JD McDonagh vs. The Miz

Winner: The Miz

With R-Truth and Dominik Mysterio on his side, JD McDonagh looked to have the number’s game. However, after an equally matched fight, The Miz was able to get the upper hand. After a Skull-Crushing Finale, The Miz picked up the win.

In-ring segment: Seth Rollins takes the ring to talk about the upcoming Royal Rumble. He mentions his WrestleMania record, which is stellar and asks who could he see beating this Mania. Jinder Mahal interrupts the show and continues his rant from last week. He claims that no one is showing The Modern Day Maharaja any respect and overlooking him. To this, Rollins agrees but says it’s on purpose.

The two get into a heated argument and Rollins gives him a chance to hit him. Mahal refuses, but as Rollins is about to leave, Mahal attacks. The two brawl for a bit before Mahal runs away from Rollins after failing to hit the Khallas.

Ivar vs. Otis

Winner: Ivar

The two big men put on an incredible display of size and athletic performance. Despite being massive, Otis was able to hit him with the World’s Strongest Slam. However, after a moonsault, Ivar picked up the win.

Backstage segment: Jey Uso claims to have one goal this year, to win a singles title. Bronson Reed interrupts to tell Uso not to get in his way.

Main Event: Cody Rhodes vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Winner: Cody Rhodes

The match, which was turned into a street fight, was brimming with anger and storytelling. Nakamura has aimed to end Rhodes’ story. The match started out with Nakamura pulling out a broom to keep Rhodes at a distance. Rhodes pulled out a Kendo stick to retaliate. The two men did not leave anything behind and went at each other with everything they had. Fans were quick to chant, “We want tables.”

After Rhodes pulled out a table, Nakamura pulled out the nunchakus. Taking advantage, Nakamura was able to drive Rhodes through a table. However, Nakamura wasn’t able to pick up the win yet. Nakamura had the upper hand after the table spot but failed to capitalize. After a Cross-Rhodes, Cody picked up the win.
