While he never achieved mainstream acclaim, CM Punk has always been a big star in the wrestling business. For 18 years, Punk has given his life and soul to wrestling and has done everything that one could do. From ROH to WWE to AEW, he has also become a world champion wherever he has gone and wrestled in arenas all over the world, but there is still one thing that he’s yet to do in his 24-year wrestling career.

The most surprising thing about this feat is that it is related to Punk’s hometown as well. So, it was lucky that Tony Khan announced Chicago as the premiere destination for AEW Collision.

Tony Khan announced AEW Collision will be held in the United Center in Chicago. This was already a hint that Punk was going to make his return to AEW again and then Khan announced Punk’s return officially a few weeks after. At first it was thought that Punk would only be making an appearance similar to his AEW Rampage debut in 2021, but Punk wanted more.

According to a report from Fightful Select, CM Punk was pushing to wrestle at the United Center. His inclusion at the event was his choice as Chicago’s favorite, Punk, has never wrestled in the arena despite it being a hometown venue for him. While this was a clear move to introduce another show for AEW, after Dynamite and Rampage, who knew that Punk’s dream would come true in the process?

But Punk’s appearance on the show wasn’t enough to boost in ticket sales. So, let’s look at the other matches and segments that Khan has prepared for this Saturday’s first-ever AEW Collision.

The match that Punk is set to wrestle in, is none other than against Bullet Club Gold, Jay White, and Juice Robinson, tagging along with ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe. Punk will be teaming with the AEW tag team champions, FTR.

Apart from Punk, there is another big return set for Collision and he’s also a former WWE star. Notably winning the TNT championship once, Miro aka Rusev, has been out of action for quite a long time. Another former WWE star who’s returning at Collision is Andrade El Idolo, who’ll go one-on-one against Buddy Matthews.

All eyes will be on AEW’s newest offering and what will Punk have in store as he returns to the ring after a publicized hiatus.
