From anonymity to popularity, a story like LA Knight’s meteoric rise in the business isn’t written in history often. The top WWE sensation first caught the eyeballs of a large wrestling fanbase, flaunting his exceptional mic skills and marvelous in-ring antics only a few months back. Quickly he saw a total spin in his career when his dull main roster presence steadily took a jump into an over-the-top status, with Triple H keeping aside his age factor to elevate him higher.

Moving far from that time, Knight rose to the rank of winning the Slim Jim Royal Battle in SummerSlam this month. That said, the company is still yet to offer him a main event push or at least a solid mid-card push. While popular theory often deems his 40-plus age as the culprit, former WWE insider Brian Gewirtz ruled out the stance.

Unlike any other sport, father time catches up with pro wrestlers at a slow pace. Wrestlers’ high stamina, mental and physical endurance allow them to stick to their game longer than the other cross-sports stars.

Former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz sees no difference when it comes to the most fan-favorite superstar of the mix. He believes Knight’s charisma and incredible talent can easily overshadow his age.

In the recent episode of The Ringe Wrestling Show, Gewirtz noted, ”To an extent I don’t think people are consciously thinking about backstage like well he’s 40, so we better go with him because he’s not getting any younger. That might be like in the back of people’s minds, but I think more, its he’s hot. Push him. You can’t deny it anymore. You can’t suppress him, you can’t have him not be on the MSG SmackDown when you’re in New York City and not take advantage of that. He’s like, you know, there’s lightning in the bottle.”

However, Knight’s advanced age compared to his peers posed problems for him at one point in his career.

LA Knight’s age factor limited his opportunities once in his career

Before stepping into the WWE ring, LA Knight fought as Eli Drake in Impact and NWA. However, his NXT debut bore fruit with some standout storylines involving Cameron Grimes.

Shortly after, he again saw a setback upon his main roster call in 2022. Instead of capitalizing on his crackling NXT momentum, WWE featured him as a manager under the shade of Max Dupri, the most unpopular and questionable gimmick of Knight so far. It was indeed a drawback for the promising superstar.

Later, the 40-year-old revealed that it was his age that came between his success. Knight believes the authority decided not to offer him a significant push initially as they measured his ability in terms of his age. The former world champion, however, still isn’t sold on this deed of the company. He believes that his body doesn’t function in accordance to his age as he lived a healthy life unlike those who took much wear and tears in their bodies and underwent several surgeries by the time they reached their 40s.
