Ever since WWE launched its talent cut initiative amidst the post-merger budget crunch, multiple bigwigs have been left homeless (promotion-less). It seems they are gradually finding their footing, penning lucrative deals with various alternative promotions. The latest practitioner of this trend is none other than Mustafa Ali.

Although it was largely speculated that Ali would find his way to AEW, his recent announcement of moving to TNA ruled out that notion.

A WWE firing couldn’t stop the 37-year-old’s momentum. Since becoming a free agent in December 2023, Ali has had zero issues with cementing his status as a highly sought-after commodity outside of the WWE realm. After teasing appearances in different wrestling juggernauts, including AEW and NPJW, it looks like The Disrupter finally found his unwavering destination where he can stand firm for the next few years. Within a week of signing WWE’s Nic Nemeth, TNA capitalized on their chances by airing a vignette during the January 25th edition of TNA iMPACT that commenced Mustafa Ali’s arrival in the promotion.

However, the former WWE star will be making his in-ring return at New Japan Pro-Wrestling in April at Windy City Riot in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois. The former WWE star might have thought that he had lost the biggest opportunity of his career following his release.

Ali found himself at the top of the mountain post his WWE departure

Despite a well-crafted run in NXT Mustafa Ali couldn’t stop his unexpected release from WWE. Despite Ali himself petitioning for a release back in 2022, it must have hurt for it to come to fruition in 2023. He had finally begun to establish himself at NXT and had proved himself as a worthy contender for the NXT North American Championship. In fact,  Sean Ross Sapp shared a note on Fightful Select about how the plan was for him to be crowned champion.

He also mentioned how, following Ali’s release, he became a hot commodity for the other wrestling companies. Ali has been a massive needle mover in selling tickets for indie companies. Moreover, promoters have reportedly seen a surge in positive reviews when booking him for their shows. Needless to say, all this hype was because of his years of successful WWE alliance.
