Zoey Stark set her sights on a career in professional football before she got into WWE. However, she couldn’t pursue that sport, as her mother advised her against it. In a recent podcast, the former NXT Women’s tag team champion disclosed her interests in multiple sports. Including baseball, basketball, and football.

Also, the WWE superstar disclosed how the skills transferred she developed for those particular sports helped her gain success as a professional wrestler. The WWE star also addressed how her mom felt about wrestling and WWE at the beginning of her career.

Zoey Stark couldn’t become a footballer for this reason

In a recent episode of the Busted Open podcast, the 29-year-old admitted to her interest in football. However, her mother strongly opposed it because of the risks that footballers are exposed to on the field. Stark said, “I wanted to do football for a while, but my mom would just not allow me with tackling.

Therefore, the NXT wrestler’s mom was not accepting of the harsh nature of tackles in football. Especially when players tackle at high momentum, during the heat of the game. In the worst-case scenario, these collisions could result in severe injuries.

However, even though there’s a lot of contact in football, WWE superstars are also exposed to violence. With people ready to hurl chairs and bodies at each other, it’s not the most family-friendly sport. The host was curious to know how Stark’s mother felt about her career, in a much more dangerous sport.

Stark’s mother wasn’t particularly fond of WWE at first

The WWE is the pinnacle of pro wrestling. The wrestlers know there are enormous risks involved in combat sports. But, they are mentally and physically prepared to take on any challenge, during the fast-paced action inside the ring.

The Former Women’s Tag Team Champion couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony. Zoey Stark explained her mother’s opinion on WWE and said “Uh…She cringes every time she watches it (pro wrestling). She hates (the contact involved) in wrestling.” However, over the years, she witnessed how Stark grew into a fearsome wrestler. Moreover, the 29-year-old also revealed that her mother is proud of her career now. “But she’s very proud of me right now,” Stark concluded.
