In recent years, combat sports athletes have shown a greater tendency to practice their art across various sports. Over the years, several wrestlers have been a part of MMA/UFC and vice versa. Now, former WWE Superstar Kalisto has teased his boxing debut on social media.

He released a brief video clip where he is seen wearing boxing gloves and it ends with a bell and the name “Samuray Del Sol”. This was his name in the wrestling industry prior to becoming Kalisto in WWE.

He changed his name back to his former wrestling name after WWE trademarked Kalisto. In fact, he even updated his website with his new name and added a 90-day clock.

This clock shows the 90-day non-compete countdown during which he won’t be able to work with any other promotion.

Nothing has been confirmed yet. The video clearly indicates that Kalisto is talking about a future event. Therefore, exactly when and how it’ll happen is yet to become public information.

Kalisto had an interesting journey in WWE

The former Superstar signed his WWE contract in 2013 and made his official WWE debut in 2014. He was primarily known for his in-ring speed and agility.

Upon his arrival in WWE, he made a mark on NXT. Following that, he created The Lucha Dragons tag team with pro-wrestler Sin Cara, and they went onto become champion.

When he moved to the main roster in March 2015, he continued to work his way to the top. He secured the WWE Cruiserweight Championship once and the WWE Tag Team Championships twice.

Following that, Kalisto formed a stable with Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado called The Lucha House Party.

The last time he was seen inside the ring was in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle on April 9th, 2021. This was his only match after the draft.

He was released alongside other Superstars such as Samoa Joe, Peyton Royce, Chelsea Green, Mickie James, and others. Nobody knows exactly why WWE cut short the contracts, but it seems as though these were cost-cutting measures.

Even though Kalisto himself didn’t make a statement about his release, his wife sent a message to his fans, letting them know that the pro-wrestler will move onto doing bigger things, and it’s just the beginning.

Seems like that’s what he’s doing! Hopefully, his fans will soon watch him in action inside a different ring but with the same power and athleticism!
