Those who could defeat the ‘Deadman’ carved successful careers for themselves. But not everyone could was lucky enough to get a chance to beat him.

While superstars begged for a match with the Undertaker despite being on the losing end, there was one superstar who was literally given a legit pass to beat him.

Ahmed Johnson was supposed to conquer The Undertaker

Ahmed Johnson was one of the most dominant figures in WWE during the mid 90s. Johnson was such an imposing figure that he beat some of the top names in the company at the time. In fact, he even became the first African-American to hold the WWE intercontinental Championship.

There was a time when Johnson was being built as the next big thing in WWE. This build up also included him winning the WWE championship. What will shock you even more is that he was slated to win the WWE championship from the ‘Deadman‘ himself! We’re not bluffing, he said it himself during an interview with Lucha Libre Online.

Johnson said, “I was going to win the title (WWF World Championship), until I got injured. But it’s true that I was scheduled to win the title against The Undertaker. Things didn’t fold out. And at end, it is what it is.” H/t SportsKeeda

Ahmed Johnson won the Intercontinental Championship at King of the Ring 1996 and was set to become WWE Champion in due time. He even won a 11-Man Battle Royal on Raw to earn a WWE Championship opportunity. However, legitimate kidney issues him derailed all plans.

We can only imagine what the reception would’ve been had Johnson won the title. Especially from The Undertaker. Although it also would’ve been historic as he would’ve become the first African-American WWE Champion. Alas! All of it just ifs and buts.
