From a bullied kid to WWE’s poster boy, John Cena himself turned the wheel of his fortune. In his early youth, Cena watched the battles of Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels with bated breath. He dreamed about being in their place someday. Finally, it came out true when he debuted in the Stamford-based company back in 2002.

Although the rest part of his journey is no less than a history that every wrestling fan knows, people, including WWE insiders, will continue to revisit those golden moments as long as WWE exists. Bruce Prichard explained the reaction of Cena and his family after the very first title win at WrestleMania 21. It was ecstatic, as it was probably the ultimate dream of Cena to get there as a kid.

Prichard referred to sacrificing deeds of him to articulate Cena’s sheer dedication. ”I know it was four o’clock in the morning and I know that you’re in Yakima, Washington, but I need you in Thibodaux, Louisiana, in about six hours. John would be there. … wouldn’t ask how, why or anything else John would be in Thibodaux, Louisiana, and doing whatever he needed to do, that’s how he made it…. John didn’t stub his toe and go oh man the doctor told me I needed to put ice on it every six hours and if I am on the plane, I will have to do it on the plane, no John just did it and went and did what he needed to do.”, the veteran concluded.

However, his first world title match that Prichard talked about, despite holding a great emotional component, from the critical point of view, was not a standout match

John Cena’s first world title win match at WrestleMania 21 was an average affair

While Cena won many of his world titles in some iconic matches, some of them were average and not so memorable in terms of match quality. His first world title win belongs to the second category. Cena defeated JBL (John Layfield) in an 11 minutes bout, but it didn’t contain any such epic moments. The contest did not do both superstars any justice. JBL was at full pace early in the match. Cena put on a sluggish performance, taking one after another attack from the opponent. At one moment, JBL even tossed Cena out of the ring. But Cena somehow managed to bounce back quickly, ultimately winning his first WWE Championship.

According to many WWE fanatics, it should have been built in a more phenomenal way, considering it marked the end of a 279-day-long title reign. Nevertheless, it was Cena’s first leg of the journey to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history, and that sense remains incomparable to any other.
