Believe it or not, the film director, Kay Cannon, knew little about Cena’s WWE career. But what spurred her to cast John Cena in her film? It was Cena’s performance in other comedy films, like Trainwreck, that got her interested in him. She was also impressed with the sixteen-time World Champions’ hosting of the Epsys.

In addition, John Cena’s work in the “We Are America” PSA galvanized Cannon to consider him for the role. Kay Cannon, who enjoys working with undiscovered talents, also admired John Cena’s work in WWE’s reality TV show, Total Divas. According to Los Angeles Times, she associated John Cena with The American flag. She further stated that Cena connects with the masses.
