“I Turn Back Into The Undertaker”: Mark Calaway Reveals the Itch That Causes Him to Turn Into the ‘Deadman’ Even After Retirement

WWE legend The Undertaker has been able to act more like his actual self ever since his retirement. These days he is often seen making public appearances, doing interviews and spending time with his family. Mark Calaway has been stepping out of the shadow of The Undertaker.

During an episode of ‘Broken Skulls’ with another wrestling legend ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Calaway spoke about how he stills immerses into his character from time to time.

After playing the iconic gimmick for three decades, seeing The Undertaker was just another guy was a pleasant surprise for many fans. Keeping his character real in and outside the ring for this long must have been challenging for ‘The Phenom’.

Now, to see him talk about his experiences and do all the media appearances is a refreshing experience.

The Undertaker still gets into character at times

The Undertaker shared various details on the ‘Broken Skulls’ podcast, from his early beginnings to the rise in the popularity of his character.

Austin asked ‘The Deadman’ how he adjusts now to being Mark Calway after playing ‘The Undertaker’ with such dedication and does he get the two personalities confused.

The Undertaker said that most of the time he is Mark Calaway, especially when doing interviews, but he keeps a little vibe of the American Badass that people can identify with.

He further said, “There’re times where like if I’m watching our product yeah I turn kind of back into Undertaker a little bit thinking about what I would do in that situation as that guy. But those thoughts are, you know, those are kind of fleeting and I’m more mark Calaway. And I’m comfortable with that right I’ve ever been. I’ve never been that guy that like wants that kind of extra recognition or anything like that. So you know and it comes with the territory as you well know, but yeah, you get a lot more Mark Calaway these days”.[05:00-07:00]

It is truly special to hear one of the all-time greats speak about something personal in a casual manner.
