Despite having a talented team of writers, McMahon would often override them and end up making changes. Former WWE lead writer, Brian Gewirtz, revealed how his former boss was once disgusted at his idea of a WWE star making fun of an NBA Legend.

Gewirtz had a strained relationship with McMahon during his time with the company.
In his book, he writes how it was like working for the wrestling titan. He also explained, how one bad move can result in losing the goodwill of McMahon.
The former writer recalls an incident in 2010, when he pitched an idea involving WWE star, The Miz, and the NBA icon, LeBron James. His idea was emphatically rejected. The reason, however, will surprise you.
Vince McMahon shot down the idea of The Miz disrespecting LeBron
In his new book, ‘There’s Just One Problem, Brian Gewirtz talked about the hard ball management style of Vince McMahon and how he rejected his idea of The Miz taking shots at LeBron James.
He says he had written some lines for The Miz, which had him call James to be “Dwayne Wade’s sidekick.”
The former WWE writer revealed that McMahon was ‘disgusted with his idea. And this was not because he respected the NBA star, but he thought his viewers didn’t follow other sports.
Gewirtz also claimed that his former boss had no idea who Dwyane Wade was and gave him an earful in a room full of executives. Gewirtz recalled that he had suggested McMahon to ask the rest of the room about his idea.
As per Brian, on hearing this, “Vince slammed his hand on the table and said, ‘I’m not talking to them, I’m talking to you!’
Gewirtz believes things ultimately boiled down to a battle of egos.

He says what his ex-boss was really saying was, “You’re openly defying your boss and trying to show me up in front of a room full of my trusted employees. Who in the holy f**k do you think you are?” Despite this, the writer stayed with WWE for another five years.

Brian Gewirtz left WWE to join The Rock
Brian Gewirtz would eventually left the WWE in 2015, to join Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Productions company.
