Matt Hardy’s current contract with AEW is reportedly coming to an end with no significant developments over a possible new deal. Combined with his absence from AEW TV for the last few weeks, speculation rose whether Matt Hardy will be hanging up his boots. While Matt Hardy provided clarity on his retirement speculation, fans wonder whether a WWE return is on the cards.

Even though Jeff Hardy has some additional time left on his contract due to injuries and suspension, it is possible that the brothers could soon head to WWE. What fuels these rumors is Matt Hardy’s Instagram story not so long ago.

As per several sources, Matt Hardy’s deal with AEW comes to an end this March. This is going to leave the wrestling legend open to sign contracts with other promotions. But the ending of this contract had fans worried as they assumed that Matt was going to retire. To calm down his worrying fans, Matt Hardy revealed that he isn’t retiring anytime soon.

A fan on X asked the former WWE Tag Team Champion to clarify whether his contract with AEW coming to an end is a sign that his wrestling run would also be done with it. The 49-year-old replied to the tweet and said, “No, I am not retiring from active wrestling anytime soon.

Although the older Hardy brother won’t be hanging up his wrestling gear, he didn’t reveal whether he would sign another contract with AEW or return to the Stamford-based company. But he did drop a significant WWE-related tease earlier in the week.

On his Instagram, Matt Hardy dropped a photo of himself and his brother holding the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship belts.

Since WrestleMania XL is merely a few weeks away, this could be a tease that the Hardy Boyz may show up in Philadelphia again. Since Jeff’s contract may not end at the same time as his brother it could be a tricky situation, but fans are still rooting for them to have their ‘final run’ in WWE.

“WWE Bound?” Fans hope to see The Hardy Boyz in WWE in more time

After exiting the WWE in 2009, Matt and Jeff Hardy made a historic return to the promotion in 2017 at Wrestlemania 33. Could we see a repeat of the same at Wrestlemania 40? The pair are fan favorites and are even in the discussion for WWE Hall of Fame induction among fans. So it wouldn’t be surprising to see them back in WWE for one last dance. At least, that’s what the fans think.

Wrestling fans have been bombarding Matt Hardy’s X account for quite some time, demanding his brother and him to come back to WWE. His last two tweets received replies from fans who were trying to make him give in to the same request.

The Hardy Boyz leaving AEW and going to WWE wouldn’t shock many given Matt Hardy has expressed his frustration with the creative direction in Tony Khan’s promotion. Last year in December, speaking on his podcast, Matt Hardy said, “…Just the way we’ve been utilized like the last four months, it’s been very frustrating.” As such, another fan chimed in with a similar request.

On March 10, Matt Hardy posted his promo from Dynamite on X and in the caption, he thanked AEW fans for following him and his brother to AEW. To some fans this seemed like a farewell message. This led to fan questioning if they are moving to WWE.

One more person joined the list of fans expecting to see the former tag team champions in WWE.

While the Hall of Fame for both Matt and Jeff Hardy seems inevitable, their WWE return would increase the chances of it happening soon.  Addressing a possible induction Matt Hardy said, “I think so. I feel very confident about that. I think that would be fitting, and I think obviously, we’re a deserving team.” A fan wished for it too happen as well.

A Hardy Boyz surprise return at WrestleMania won’t be new. At WrestleMania 33, the tag team returned to a thunderous ovation and even won the Fatal-4-Way RAW Tag Team title match. Current tag team champions Finn Balor and Damian Priest are set to defend their titles in a 6-pack ladder match at WrestleMania 40, could history repeat itself? This fan seemed to be on board.
