Pro wrestlers often don’t leave a promotion until they have their future planned out ahead of them. However, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin was the kind of wrestler who appears to have walked out of WWE without thinking twice. Paul Heyman once talked about how this makes Austin a “dangerous” person to do business with. Some fans might find the reason behind Austin’s walkout to be ‘absurd’.

This is because a young Brock Lesnar was the reason behind Austin’s departure from the company. The event becomes more blurry the more you think about it. However, Heyman set it all out and transparent for WWE fans.

What did Brock Lesnar do?

In short terms, The Beast Incarnate angered Austin. However, it did not happen directly. The Wise Man started by revealing, “I think it had a lot to do with whether Stone Cold Steve Austin wanted to work with Brock Lesnar or not. It was brewing for a long time and Austin was clearly getting pissed off.” However, he did not stop just there. He believed that there was a reason why Austin was so comfortable leaving the company without a backup plan.

Heyman claimed that Austin worked hard to become a wealthy man in the business. So much so that his backup plan could be as simple as living off the interest he would generate on his wealth for the rest of his life. The infamous wrestling manager further added, “That’s a dangerous guy to do business with because he has the ability one day to say, ‘screw you, I’m going home’. Which is exactly what he did.

Revisiting our old reports, we might have found the ‘real’ reason why Austin didn’t fight Lesnar back in the day and eventually called off his WWE career for the time being. This time, the reasoning came from Austin himself.

Why didn’t Steve Austin want to face Brock Lesnar?

During the early 2000s, WWE was pushing The Beast Incarnate to be ‘the next big thing’ in the wrestling industry. Due to this, they wanted him to win a lot of matches. In fact, this one time, Lesnar even won ‘King of the Ring’ in his debut year 2002. In that event, he was supposed to face Steve Austin. However, Austin walked out before the match could come into existence, leading WWE to make Lesnar face someone else.

Over a month ago, Austin revealed in an interview that he didn’t want to face The Beast Incarnate without a good story build-up. Since the match wasn’t doing good on creatives, Austin didn’t feel like wrestling and simply turned down his role.

Despite his actual intentions, Heyman’s assumption about him was also probably true regarding his wealth. Because without proper financial support, Austin might not have pulled off this bold move.
