With the highly anticipated “30 days of The Deadman” coming up, WWE fans have started look back at the legendary career of WWE’s greatest Superstar- The Undertaker.

For decades, the intimidating man stalked the ring, settling scores and putting others in their graves. His gimmick was, is, and will always be one of WWE’s best creations.

However, there actually was a time where Taker was not “The Deadman”. Even though it is hard to imagine, even a man like The Undertaker had a different earlier role.

In a video that has re-emerged out of the water, a very young Undertaker can be seen running around the ring like there was no tomorrow, fighting a very active Road Warrior Animal.

This man was not “The Phenom” that we know and love, but was “Mean” Mark Callous/ Calaway. This was his ring name, a slight modification from his own name, that was used when he worked for WCW.

Yes! That’s right. Even the glorious legend of WWE once worked for the big rivals WCW. You can probably figure out that he isn’t in WWE, judging by the fact that he is not wearing his iconic overalls and gloves.

Taker can be seen jumping around and bouncing off the ropes quite quickly. This was nothing but an early demonstration of his agility and athleticism.

The Undertaker floated like a Cruiserweight and stung like a Heavyweight

His Cruiserweight-like movements off the ropes combined with his Heavyweight-like punches should have been noticed by WCW writers early on.

Ole Anderson, one of the key wrestlers and influencers in WCW, told Taker that no one would ever pay to see him wrestle. WCW was all set to use him as a sort of platform to push other developing Superstars.

Leaving the company just one after joining, Taker went to WWE. There, his superior abilities were immediately recognized through trial. The Undertaker debuted on November 22nd, 1990 as “The Deadman” at Survivor Series.

From there, his rare potential was exercised and he went on to become one of the best figures to ever step in the ring. When fans look up the greatest wrestlers of all time, right up there stands The Undertaker.

From his days as “Mean” Mark Callous to now, we can definitely say the world would pay to see The Undertaker wrestle, as it has for the last thirty years.
