MJF has been placed as AEW’s top heel and has thrived in this role. His promo skills and the ability to make people absolutely despise him are incredible. At such a young age, MJF is already showing traits of what could make a wrestling legend. He even stays in character when not in the ring and displays his ‘heelish’ acts on social media and in public. However, recently MJF came up with an emotional tribute to his late grandfather on Twitter completely out of his character.
After his tweet, fans also joined him in paying tribute to his grandfather and sympathized with MJF.
Fans show support to AEW star MJF after his tweet
Maxwell Jacob Friedman, MJF, has been a constant top feature of AEW programming from the get-go. He has had memorable feuds with legends like Chris Jericho and CM Punk. These feuds cemented him as a top-tier heel in wrestling today. And of course, who can forget the explosive pipe bomb directed toward AEW owner Tony Khan that broke the internet.

Recently, MJF posted a tweet where he paid tribute to his late grandfather, who died of cancer two years ago.
In the tweet, he shared a photo of him standing by his late grandfather. The tweet also featured a second image of MJF wearing a similar outfit as his grandfather during the February 9 episode of AEW Dynamite. This was right after he had beaten CM Punk on AEW Dynamite in their first match. MJF wrote, “Two years since your passing. Ik you’ll be watching on Saturday. Thanks for teaching me how to style and strut, Love you Poppa.”

Indeed, Friedman’s emotional message for his grandfather is certainly out of his character. He usually keeps his original character outside the ring as well. In fact, he even foul mouthed his parents once on Twitter after they said they too think he “s*cks”.

This Saturday, MJF will face AEW World Champion Jon Moxley for the title at the Full Gear pay-per-view. It will be a chance for him to win his first major title in the promotion as well.
But lately, MJF has been treading a fine line between a heel and a face since his return to AEW. Fans have been cheering him more and his latest tweet will only get him more sympathy. MJF will now look to give a fitting tribute to his “Poppa” by winning the AEW World title at Full Gear.
