Roman Reigns has drawn the ire of the fans for years. Despite being a surprising fan favorite as a heel, the WWE Universe hotly rejected Reigns’ babyface push. After WWE refused to stop pushing him as their top star, the WWE Universe came up with unique ways to let WWE know how they felt about the new golden boy.

Crowd chants can be a boon and a bane. Sometimes crowds can destroy a wrestling match even though it’s actually excellent. On the other hand, crowd chants have taken mundane matches and turned them into must-watch classics.

In 2015, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose teamed up to face the Wyatt Family at SummerSlam. The intention of the feud was to pit Roman Reigns against the biggest heel in WWE, i.e., Bray Wyatt, and pair him with a fan favourite, i.e., Dean Ambrose. While the feud wasn’t that interesting, the actual wrestling was superb.

Reigns and Ambrose threw everything they had at Wyatt and Luke Harper, but the Wyatt Family hit back. Harper delivered a superkick to Reigns which sent him flying over the announcer’s table. For five minutes, Reigns remained behind the table, completely motionless, and gave the impression that he was indeed ‘sleeping’.

The Brooklyn crowd picked up on this and totally ignored the match, chanting ‘Roman’s sleeping’ repeatedly until he got back to his feet. Reigns rallied and Speared Bray Wyatt for a big win.

There have been some instances where Roman Reigns received the loudest boos in pro wrestling history. WWE fans had no other method to show WWE just how badly they did not want him as the face of the company. This all started back in 2015, when Reigns won the Royal Rumble match to thunderous boos.

The Philadelphia crowd wanted Daniel Bryan to return to the main event of WrestleMania and booed Reigns when he won, even though The Rock showed up to help him.

The following year, Reigns was booed at WrestleMania 32 after beating Triple H for the WWE Championship. WWE actually piped in cheers to drown out the negative reaction.

The trend continued at the 2017 Royal Rumble, when Reigns broke fans’ hearts by entering the Rumble match at #30. Everyone expected a big return, but hearing the Big Dog’s music was a big disappointment. A few months later, Reigns witnessed the most vulgar chants any wrestler has ever received the night after (sort of) retiring the Undertaker at WrestleMania.
