John Cena dated former WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella for six years, with the pair getting engaged in 2017. However, after disagreements over starting a family, WWE’s resident power couple called off their wedding and went their separate ways just a year later. As is often the case in a relationship, a person learns about their partner while also bringing changes in themselves to adjust to the dynamic. The same was the case with John Cena, who once talked about how Nikki Bella changed his life.

Cena’s relationship with Nikki Bella had a lot of complexities involved, but it also had a positive effect on the Leader of Cenation’s life. In an interview on WWE Network, Cena shared details about his romantic life with Nikki Bella. He also said that she made him a “better human being”.

Fans of John Cena and Nikki Bella had an insight into their relationship through reality shows such as Total Divas and then Total Bellas. Those who watched the couple on-screen saw them go through their ups and downs and even their break up. And while it was a roller coaster ride for both individuals, John Cena did cherish his time with his ex-fiance.

In a 2016 interview on the WWE Network, Renee Paquette asked Cena what he has learned from Nikki Bella to add romance to their life. The Doctor of Thuganomics pointed out that it was much more than romance that Nikki had taught him. Cena said, “I was very selfish, very focused on just me and pushing forward at all costs. Along comes this beautiful person and waltzes into my life. It’s kind of a two-way street.”

Moreover, Cena added that Nikki Bella made him a better person. The 16-time world champion explained, “If you say you are in love, a relationship with someone, it’s a give and take. For that I’m grateful. Like she literally has taught me to be a better human being.”  Clearly, Nikki Bella brought out the side of Cena that maybe he wasn’t even aware of himself.

After an end to their relationship, the two have remained good friends with Nikki Bella even thanking John Cena in her Hall of Fame induction speech. For John Cena, despite struggling to come to terms with their breakup, he did learn a few things from Nikki Bella and used them to better himself as a person.
