Fans can be both a boon and a bane at times. WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella found it out the hard way after she called off her engagement with 16-time world champion John Cena. The split took place in 2018, ending their relationship, which started in 2012. After four years, Bella married dancer Artem Chigvintsev in 2022, two years after Cena tied the knot with Shay Shariatzadeh. However, the former WWE Divas Champion once revealed that her husband had been allegedly targeted online by John Cena fans.

The revelation was made during an episode of ‘The Nikki & Brie Show’ podcast, earlier this year. She said not just her husband, she herself faces hate from fans, despite being a prized performer for the WWE for several years.

The Leader of Cenation is followed by millions of people online. Some of these fans are so loyal that they can take things personally even when it doesn’t involve them. This seems to be what plagues Nikki Bella and her husband.

Speaking on her podcast in February, Bella opened up on the hate she and her husband receive due to her relationship with Cena. “The one thing that has affected me the most recently is just all the hate Artem gets because they compare him [to John Cena],” the 39-year-old said.

While she said that Chigvintsev generally ignores it, there are times he shares his feeling about it to his wife. “Every now and then, he’ll make a comment to me and he’s like, ‘Gosh, your industry can be so brutal. The dancing industry is not like that’,” Nikki Bella said.

But why did John Cena and Nikki Bella’s relationship fall apart, despite them being a power couple in the pro wrestling world? Let’s find out.

John Cena’s stance on family life acted as a roadblock in his relationship with Nikki Bella

John Cena has been a role model for millions of people over the years. His clean image helped him secure a push from WWE that allowed him to be their generational star, equaling pro wrestling legend Ric Flair’s haul of 16-world titles. However, like all human beings, Cena too isn’t devoid of flaws.

While there is no doubt that he loves children, which is evident from his record-setting work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he didn’t want to have kids of his own.

This clashed directly with Nikki Bella’s priorities, who wanted to have kids of her own. With Cena remaining unwavering in his stance, the couple chose to call off their engagement and part ways. Bella later found her soulmate in Chigvintsev, who had been her dance partner in season 25 of Dancing With The Stars, in 2017.

The couple has a son, Matteo, born in 2020. Meanwhile, there have been reports stating that John Cena has had a change of heart. The 46-year-old is now open to having kids of his own. His fans would surely love to welcome little Cena into this world, but so far, there is no news on that front.
