John Cena is currently riding the wave of success in Hollywood. But before he forayed into Hollywood full-time, he built a decorated wrestling career in WWE. The sixteen-time champion is unmistakably one of the greatest WWE wrestlers of all time. However, there is one great WWE legend whom John Cena wishes he could go back in time and face to earn respect.

The wrestling legend in question is none other than the late great WWE Hall of Famer, Andre the Giant. The latter was well-known for his legendary wrestling career, which also garnered him crossover success. He was one of the most revered wrestling personalities to ever step foot in the squared circle.

Andre the Giant dominated the wrestling business from the 1970s through the 1980s. André was unrivaled in appearance, let alone wrestling skills, standing at 7 feet 4 inches and weighing around 500 pounds. One of the most talked-about moments of his career was his match against Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 3.

The wrestling legend was one of Hulk Hogan’s most formidable opponents throughout his career. By defeating the Frenchman, Hogan solidified himself as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Rubbing elbows with Andre was the dream of many superstars.

While speaking with Men’s Journal, John Cena expressed that if he had the chance to go back in time and wrestle someone, he would test his strength against Andre the Giant. According to him, Andre was the touchstone for testing the mettle of wrestlers.

On being asked who he would face from the old era, he said, “Andre the Giant. Just to see if I could earn his respect. He was the measuring stick by which everybody was judged.”

Sadly, in 1993, Andre the Giant passed away due to an apparent heart attack. He was posthumously inducted into the inaugural class of Hall of Fame in 1993. John Cena, on the other hand, is arguably the most successful pro wrestler, tying his record-setting World Title wins with Ric Flair.

Aside from John Cena, The Undertaker once lamented the fact that he never faced Andre The Giant. Every year, WWE honors ‘The Eighth Wonder of the World’ by hosting a namesake battle royal in his honor.

John Cena was once called the strongest wrestler by another revered giant of pro wrestling.

How would John Cena have fared against Andre the Giant?

John Cena is highly praised for his strength and stability. It is not uncommon to see John Cena hoist superstars with large frames and deliver his finisher, the Attitude Adjustment. In fact, at WrestleMania 25, the former WWE Champion lifted The Big Show and Edge at the same time and delivered an Attitude Adjustment.

It’s also worth noting that John Cena, according to Big Show, is one of the strongest superstars in terms of strength and stability.

Considering the fact that The Big Show was almost as big as Andre the Giant, it is a safe bet that John Cena would be able to slug it out with the 7 feet 4-inch giant. Nevertheless, watching the duo collide remains a dream match that can only materialize in WWE video games.
